Swimmer's Ear
Everyone who goes into the water thinking that they are not going to come out fully waterlogged should reconsider how their ears will be when they come back out of the water. Swimmer's ear, although not harmful in most situations, is never pleasant and is not something that you will want to deal with in the time after a pleasant time in the water. A fun day in the water should be followed by a night of peaceful sleep, not by your ears popping and feeling like you can’t hear anyone for hours afterward.
Perhaps the easiest way to prevent swimmer’s ear is to simply not go into the water; however, for most people this is not the most logical of prevention routes. Swimmer’s ear is certainly not pleasant, but if preventing it means not swimming, then you miss out on the fun in both directions. Another good way to prevent swimmer’s ear is to get some swimmer ear plugs that will prevent water from entering your ears deeply enough to cause discomfort.
Cures
If you haven’t thought to use swimming ear plugs and you’ve come home from a day at the ocean or a trip to the pool with a painful discomfort in your ears, there are a few ways to treat swimmer ear non-invasively. The best way to treat it for good is to purchase a pair of swimmer ear plugs, but if you’ve already got a case of swimmer’s ear, it’s more functional to know a few ways to go about the treatment of swimmer's ear.
Some have come up with swimmer's ear and natural remedies for it. There is the simple way—lying with your head to one side for a prolonged period of time until the water begins to trickle out on its own. Other folks swear by the use of swimmer's ear vinegar, but this should be done with extreme care and should never be done with young children. This swimmer's ear remedy can be very dangerous if done improperly or if done with a child who is a little too squirmy for his own safety.
Prevention
In order to prevent a follow-up case of swimmer’s ear, you can be sure to towel your ears out carefully after spending significant amounts of time in the water. Drying your ears well will ensure that you don’t get a severe infection and that anything in your ears will be on its way out before you know it.
